Our client, an industry regulatory body, seeks a senior lawyer to fill the role of Investigator. The Investigator investigates and reports on alleged material breaches of industry rules and regulations, with the aim of effecting settlements wherever possible and referring unsettled matters to the Rulings Panel for determination. They may also be required to provide submissions and prosecute the matter at hearings.
The ideal candidate for this role will have:
• An LLB with a current practising certificate
• Experience in litigation, court advocacy and dispute resolution processes
• A confident and fair manner in dealing with litigious parties
• A well developed ability to analyse complex information, often within tight timeframes
• Highly developed written and verbal communication skills
• A sound understanding of the principles of natural justice
• An understanding of effective investigative processes
The degree of investigation activity is dependent on the nature and frequency of alleged rule beaches. Over the past twelve months the investigator has averaged two to three days per week and there have been significant peaks and troughs. Accordingly, the investigator needs to have sufficient flexibility to be available as and when required. May suit barrister.
Applications close Wednesday, 11 August.

From the Chair:
It is difficult to imagine a better time to hold this intensive.
We are in the midst of one of the most dramatic changes in New Zealand’s local government landscape – the creation of the Auckland Council. This is no mere amalgamation of existing local bodies. It is a grand experiment in local democracy and ways in which we plan and execute local initiatives. Its potential application to other regions in New Zealand is apparent. At the same time important changes to the reporting and governance obligations of local authorities are before Parliament, including benchmarking of performance across all councils. The sad saga of leaky homes and the huge financial burden this is putting on homeowners and local government lurches on. It has become a challenge of almost overwhelming proportions as the protagonists search for a better solution.
This intensive will cover all those issues as well as addressing other key legal developments in the sector. It will be an ideal opportunity for lawyers active in the local government space, in-house and external, to deepen their understanding of this increasingly dynamic area, its challenges and opportunities.
